Simon Panton wrote an
article in Climber magazine for the October 2002 issue. If you can't get hold of
that then the following access instructions will at least get you there.
Click here for map. The definative North Wales Bouldering guide by Simon
Panton is due out before the end of November 2003. Porth Ysgo lies just
beyond the Rhiw headland that bounds the western side of the Hell’s Mouth bay;
the surfing mecca just west of Abersoch. As a rough guide it takes about an hour
to get from Llanberis to the parking place, followed by a ten minute walk in to
the boulders. From Pwllheli take the Abersoch road, but turn off at Llanbedrog,
following diversion signs to Rhiw thereafter. From Rhiw drive towards Aberdaron,
turning left when you see a Porth Ysgo signpost at a slightly offset crossroads
junction. After 200 metres the road splits and it is possible to park in a small
grassy lay-by. Go through the gate to the left and follow a path down a small
valley - past various old mine entrances – that opens out at the old winding
house at the top of the grass inclines above the main boulder field. If you
follow the stream down the steep retaining hillside at the back of the boulder
field, you should pop out at area 2.
