This sandstone quarry lies in woodland on the hillside immediately above the western end of Rothbury. For a quarry, there is quite a pleasant ambience about the place and its ease of access makes it a good spot for an evening's exploration, with some quite hard climbing available on fairly poor rock. Many routes have been done here over the years, but only one is recorded. There are 3 sections. The first consists of a compact wall with few natural lines and impenetrable vegetation in summer; the central section is an impressive 12 metre high wall with natural lines; the last is a 7 metre high wall of good rock with a few short routes and an interesting traverse. Follow the high level road up the hillside from opposite the County Hotel at the west end of the main street in Rothbury. Continue due west and parallel to the main road until a drive on the right leads through a gate and apparently up to a house. Follow the drive round to the left, through a gate and into the quarry.
1. Pilgrimage 12m E6 6b/c The central section of the quarry is bounded on the left by a wall set at right angles to the main face. Climb the once pegged crack boldly up the leaning wall with sustained interest. In situ pegs may offer psychological protection. Joe Webb 1991
