Winter Climbing

The most popular venue in Northumberland is Bizzle Burn in the Cheviots. Many of the quarries in Teesdale and Weardale can make attractive locations for winter ice climbing. Winter walks can be challenging and rewarding, however the sandstone outcrops in the area are not considered appropriate venues for ice axes and crampons.
